VW Polo Gti 2010 Volkswagen Golf V GTI setting such a high performance benchmark, VW has decided to take no prisoners with the development of their new Polo GTI destined for release in 2010. Looking a lot like the the new Golf VI, the quickest Polo in history has all the classical GTI design cues to make it an instant hit with the Wolfberg faithful. Rippling wheel arches, ribbons of red piping and a menacing black grille give it oodles of street presence, while a powerful 1.4TSI engine ensures both snappy and economical performance. Turbo and supercharged this 133 kW lump is good for 0-100 in seven seconds and produces a mere 150g/km in the emissions department. Utilising the capable chassis found on the current SEAT Ibiza, the new Polo GTI also promises dynamic handling thanks to beefed-up anti-roll bars, stiffer springs and an advanced traction control system. Let’s hope it’s as good as it sounds because this baby VW will face some serious competition from the new Ford Fiesta ST

VW Polo Gti 2010 Based on the same PQ25 small car platform that underpins the newest SEAT Ibiza, the 2010 Polo GTI will feature more power, more torque, more interior space and a far more modern exterior than the current model. A turbocharged and supercharged 1.4 litre inline four will be responsible for the Polo GTI’s 133kW and 250Nm, while a six-speed manual is expected to be standard equipment. A lighting-fast seven-speed DSG gearbox is tipped to appear on the options list too, and if our prior experience with VW’s excellent DSG ‘boxes is anything to go by, then the humble Polo should be transformed by it.

VW Polo Gti 2010 Powered by the same 1.4 liter super- and turbo-charged four-cylinger TSI as the Ibiza Cupra and developing nothing less than 178 hp, it should top at 225kmh and reach 60 mph in less than 7 seconds. Mated to a six-speed manual transmission, with red brake calipers, dual exhaust, and signal mirrors, the new Polo GTI is expected to do 40mpg (7 l/100km), and emits 150 grams of CO2/km. Not that bad if you care about the environment.

VW Polo Gti 2010 What will make the car fun to drive will be the way its power is delivered. The combination of turbo and supercharging means there will be a broad spread of torque at low revs, with muscular urge continuing all the way to the red line. The engine’s small capacity will also translate into strong economy and CO2 emissions. Figures of 40mpg and less than 150g/km are expected. As with the Cupra, the GTI gets a six-speed manual box as standard, with a fast-shifting seven-ratio DSG box an option. While the new Polo is set to make its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the GTI won’t be seen until early 2010.

  4. The Volkswagen Polo GTI is a hot hatch version of the Volkswagen Polo supermini, produced by German automaker Volkswagen. The Volkswagen Polo GTI can trace its roots back to the original hot Polo, the the supercharged 1.3 L 115 PS (83 kW) G40. This is a technology that has recently found its way back into Volkswagen's range of cars, most noticeable.
