Death of Honda’s Hybrid Accord Might Bring Good News
Though the profit picture continues to brighten, automakers still lose money on hybrids. And the success of Toyota’s Prius notwithstanding, consumers continue to balk at the premium they have to pay for the dual-technology cars. Honda’s management has made great noise about going green only to see its overpriced hybrid Accord unsustainable. They killed it last week. But the company currently sells a 2.2-liter diesel Civic in the United Kingdom that gets 55.4 mpg combined. Word has it that the car might be headed to the U.S.
